Our Work

Mission

Pigtown Climbs is a community-driven organization in Southwest Baltimore that uses climbing and sustainable programming to promote equity, wellness, and connection to the outdoors. Our organization creates and reactivates spaces that exist to uplift self-identified black and brown folks, minimize barriers to getting outdoors, and prioritize accessibility.

Vision

Pigtown Climbs envisions strong and healthy communities: where self-identified brown folks feel safe, free, confident and equipped to explore the outdoors.

We’re on a mission to use climbing as a means to promote racial justice, health, and environmental initiatives within Southwest Baltimore.

who we are

Pigtown Climbs is a community-driven organization and space that uses climbing and sustainable programming to foster black liberation, promote wellness, and connect the communities of Southwest Baltimore to the outdoors.

We are expanding this mission into a physical outdoor climbing and community space that our neighbors can grow in for years to come. This space and our programming exist to uplift self-identified black and brown folks, minimize barriers to getting outdoors and prioritize accessibility.

About Us

Nationally, outdoor spaces are in desperate need of active efforts of inclusion and radical improvements to engage diverse populations. Barriers such as safety, costs, access, exposure, historical trauma, and underrepresentation prevent BIPOC communities from holding their space outdoors.

At Pigtown Climbs, we believe in the power of community and the outdoors to foster significant societal change. Our organization is rooted in the principles of black liberation, wellness, and inclusive community engagement. Through sustainable programming and hands-on activities, we connect diverse groups within Southwest Baltimore to nature and to each other, helping to break down barriers of access and equity in outdoor recreation.

Pigtown Climbs wouldn’t have grown into the organization we are today without our dedicated team of board members and volunteers.
